Very soon our Nisimazine alumni will meet in Berlinale – Shooting Stars. Shooting Stars is a unique pan-European initiative which puts a spotlight on Europe’s best young actors. It helps to put emerging new acting talent at the forefront for the busy film and entertainment agenda which unfolds each year at the Berlin International Film Festival. We feel that this is a great occasion to organize a special, celebratory Nisimazine which will also become an alumni meeting, and an opportunity for them to share their views and experiences on their journey together with NISI MASA.
Chief Editor Tara Karajica
Tara Karajica is a Belgrade-based film critic and journalist. Her writings have appeared in Sydneys Buzz, Indiewire,
“Nisimazine helped me grow and blossom as a film critic and has given me the opportunity to attend amazing festivals, meet wonderful people and watch some of the world’s best films. But, most of all, it has made me part of Nisi Masa’s pan-european network and the relations it creates, cultivates and encourages; relations that find their basis in a diversified cinematic landscape and bring young Europeans together in their love of film. It has also given me the opportunity to take part, three years in a row, in the Shooting Stars events it supports year after year.”
Andra Gheorghiu
Andra Gheorghiu is a scriptwriter and cultural manager based in Bucharest. After graduating in Scriptwriting and Film Journalism at the National University of Theatre and Film, she founded The Collective Art Neighbourhood, an art collective and residency and Bucharest, collaborated with the Bucharest Experimental Film Workshop and worked as a scriptwriter in Angola. Currently she is writing for a Romanian magazine.
“Nisimazine is one of the most emotional and sincere writing experiences I have been a part of. Journalists from all over Europe write and live together, making, for one week, Nisimazine their own. It’s a dedication that comes naturally and it’s followed by wonderful moments in between: the walks, the talks, the really personalized feedback sessions, or just having a drink after a really good film with people that you feel you know for years, and that makes it truly special.”
Ismene Daskarolis
Ismene Daskarolis is an awarded filmmaker currently living in Athens and Berlin. She graduated from the School of Fine and Applied arts in Thessaloniki in 2012, specialising in video art, installation and painting. Previously she studied Film and Television at the New York College in Athens. She has written, directed and produced three short films and co-written a feature. Her work varies between narrative shorts, experimental shorts, video art and dance films and has been screened and gained distinctions in multiple international film festivals. Since 2014 she has been working as Chief Editor of the Film Department at Exostis Press, and continues to write in other publications.
“Nisimazine for me was about developing as a writer and building connections with wonderful young people from all around Europe. Living together and working together with participants and mentors in a creative environment full of writing, thinking, discussing, partying, but most of all discovering great movies, is what made the experience so wonderful and unique.”
Marian Wilhelm
Marian Wilhelm lives in Innsbruck and Vienna. He has been writing reviews and festival reports since 2012 for a daily newspaper in Alto Adige, and hosting a bi-monthly film show on a free radio station. He also works for the International Film Festival Innsbruck as a film scout and manages the press office and the festival magazine. He studied comparative literature with the MA thesis titled “Larger Than Life – the myth of Lawrence of Arabia in cinema and history”. Interests outside the cinematic universe include digital politics, the arab region and portrait photography. Also working as a paramedic for the Austrian Red Cross.
“I was happy to participate in the NISI MASA workshop at last year’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, met many interesting colleagues and film people and look forward to be part of the NISI-Community, from the journalistic perspective. NISI MASA creates and fosters the much needed pan-European connections based on the diverse cinematic landscape and brings us closer together as young Europeans through film, not as members of an industry but as European film lovers.”
Sabine Kues
Sabine Kues studied Comparative Literature and European Film and Media Studies in Germany, France and the Netherlands before moving to Dresden, Germany, where she currently works for the Saxonian Film Association (germ. Filmverband Sachsen). In addition, she curates for the analog film festival dresdner schmalfilmtage.
“What you see is what you get with Nisimazine: plentiful unknown filmic worlds which first draw you in and spit you out again into a packed festival crowd of international connoisseurs while you additionally get to enjoy a foreign city. The best thing, though, is that you will discover all of this with same-minded people from all over Europe, who will lovingly challenge your opinions, taste and your cherished personal film library. It is a true film camp and this makes for the addictiveness of Nisimazine.”
